2021 Nissan Rogue vs 2021 Mazda CX-5: More Versatility and Efficiency

All-new for 2021, the Nissan Rogue offers a new chapter in style, power, versatility and technology. Every model also has a full suite of standard technologies so you can drive with even more confidence. You also have the option of three driver displays, quilted Nappa leather, wireless charging and more comfort and convenience features. Here, we compare the Rogue to the 2021 Mazda CX-5.

The 2021 Nissan Rogue has better efficiency

The 2021 Rogue features a 2.5-litre four-cylinder that produces 181 horsepower and 181 lb-ft of torque. The CX-5's standard engine has slightly more power, and it makes available a turbo engine. However, it all comes at a big efficiency cost.

The Rogue's FWD models feature an impressive fuel economy rating of 8.9 L/100km in the city and 7.0 L/100 km on the highway. The FWD CX-5's best fuel economy rating is 9.3 L/100 km and 7.6 L/100 km, but that includes cylinder deactivation in more expensive, higher grade models. Otherwise, FWD models without cylinder deactivation rise to 9.7 L/7.8 L.

The Rogue also dominates the CX-5 in AWD efficiency. You can rely on a 9.2/7.2 L/100 km (city/highway) fuel economy rating for each AWD model. The CX-5's AWD ratings increase as high as 10.2/8.2 with the standard engine, and to 9.8/7.9 with the cylinder deactivation upgrade. The turbo engine is least efficient at 10.8/8.7.

All 2021 Nissan Rogue models pair with a continuously variable transmission with standard paddle shifters. The CX-5 only offers a six-speed automatic. Paddle shifters are only available with the turbo engine, which limits availability.

Overall, the Nissan Rogue has better fuel efficiency, saves you more money, and has a leaner impact on the environment than the CX-5.

The 2021 Nissan Rogue offers more versatility and comfort

Inside, the Rogue beats the CX-5 in several aspects of passenger and cargo volume. The front row includes more headroom and shoulder room, and the rear seats have more shoulder room. Behind the front seats, the Rogue has up to 2,098 litres of configurable cargo volume. The CX-5 reduces this to 1,688 litres. The Rogue also has more room behind the rear seats.

The 2021 Nissan Rogue also features the new and improved ProPilot Assist technology, which basically steers and accelerates the Rogue when the conditions permit. A feature that the CX-5 doesn’t have.
