Why buy a Nissan Rogue instead of a Ford Escape?
December 22 2022,
If you are looking for a compact SUV on the market, we can understand your dilemma. There are many choices and many interesting vehicles to choose from. However, some of them manage to stand out from the rest, like the Nissan Rogue.
If you were hesitating between the latter and a Ford Escape, for example, here's why choosing the former is the right choice.
Reliability
When you buy a brand new model, the last thing you want is to end up at the dealership for repairs or recalls. Here, since the debut of the current generation Rogue, the vehicle has done well while being shown to be reliable. This is less the case with the current generation of the Ford Escape. It has been in the news several times for various major problems.
In short, if you want peace of mind, Nissan is the place to go.
Cargo volume
The compact SUV segment may be made up of a dozen models, but not all of them offer decent cargo space. Ford's Escape is in the middle of the pack with a capacity of 1,852 liters. That's more limited than the Rogue, where a volume of 2098 liters is available when the second row seats are folded. Even when the second row is in place, the Rogue offers 1,033 liters of space, while the Escape offers a maximum of 948 liters.
3-cylinder power
The two models compared have the particularity of each offering a 1.5-litre turbo 3-cylinder engine. With such a small displacement, you can make gains at the pump, provided that the block doesn't work too hard under acceleration.
The advantage here clearly goes to Nissan. Thanks to the variable compression technology that benefits its powertrain, it is able to offer more power and better fuel economy. In concrete terms, we're talking about 201 horsepower and 225 lb-ft of torque for the Rogue versus 181 horsepower and 190 lb-ft of torque for the Escape.
At the pump, the Rogue also has the advantage. With a front-wheel drive configuration, ratings are 7.8 L/100 km in the city, 6.5 L/100 km on the highway. That's better than the Escape, which gets 8.5 and 6.8 L/100 km, in that order. With the four-wheel drive models, Nissan posts averages of 8.4 and 6.7 liters, again for the city and highway, in that order. Ford's figures are 9.0 and 7.6 liters respectively.
More power and more savings with the Nissan Rogue
The benefits are there. The Nissan Rogue is a better choice than the Ford Escape on several levels. Take it for a test drive and see for yourself.
